For HIV and influenza immunology/vaccinology studies and an EU financed molecular virology project. 


ViFU laboratory, the Virus & Microbiology Special Diagnostic Department (VMD) at Statens Serum Institut (SSI) 

ViFU Lab. is performing research in molecular virology, immunology/vaccinology using HIV and influenza (and emerging virus threats like Zika, Ebola etc.) as the main models. ViFU lab is also performing development of new molecular-based diagnostic and surveillance e.g. Microarray, LAMP/RFP, WGS especially for exotic virus. ViFU is a Biosafety-3 lab and a Gene technology class-2 lab with 5 full-time researchers, 5 technicians and students. 


ViFU are participating in the EU-Consortias EbolaMoDRAD (new safe Ebola diagnostic), MAD-VIR (One Health Horizon 2020, microarray surveillance of exotic and emerging virus in Europe), and UNISEC (universal influenza-DNA/RNA vaccines for humans and swine). 


VMD contain 4 other laboratories with a total of 90 employees for diagnostic and reference function for virus and bacteria in animals and man, and are the Danish National WHO reference center for influenza. 


Your work 

Your primary tasks are: 


  • Coordination and organization of our new EU Horizon 2020 project (Virus surveillance/diagnostic using our microarray technology) including set-up of teleconferences, meeting minutes, participating in writing of EU reports etc. 

  • Set-up of a homepage for the project participants from 8 European Reference institutions and a database of the developing virus results from testing of animals, insects and humans 

  • Participate in the ViFU laboratory HIV and influenza immunology/vaccinology projects using DNA/RNA vaccines (incl. DNA/RNA vaccine testing in animal models and human trials) 

  • Participate in Flow cytometry analysis of cellular immunology against HIV and influenza (IC-FACS, ADCC, etc.) in smaller teams with international collaborators 

  • Culture of HIV and influenza and vaccinia in our BSL-3 laboratory 

  • Participate in writing of scientific papers and grant applications 

  • Supervise technicians and student within cellular HIV immunology projects 

  • Participate in meetings, symposias, conferences relevant for the R&D in ViFU 


Your education and experiences 

You are a biochemist, molecular virologist, Medical, Veterinary. You hold a PhD and/or postdoc within virus molecular/immunology preferentially within HIV. You have documented experience in HIV/influenza immunology/vaccinology including Flow-cytometry based methods like ADCC, IC-FACS, T-cell proliferation on clinical samples. You have participated in EU consortias and have the interest and skills for this. 


Your personal qualifications 

You are an extrovert person with good collaborative skills, writing and talking fluent English. You are organized and efficient with a good sense of order. You have an interest for research, project management, and frequent interactions with our EU R&D collaborators in virus surveillance testings using novel molecular technology. You are excellent within IT, setting up and managing the necessary homepage and database in our EU project. 


Conditions of employment 

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the terms in the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Academics Central Organization (AC).
