We are looking for a visionary medical leader with strong research competencies and documented experience with research management, who can foster an internationally recognized research environment for neonatal research.

About the Department of Congenital Disorders

Statens Serum Institute (SSI) is under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of the Interior and Health. Our mission is to perform neonatal screening and prevent congenital diseases through research-based surveillance, diagnostics and scientific advice.

Since 1981 the Institute has screened all newborns in Denmark for congenital disorders based on the analysis of dried blood spot samples taken a few days after birth. The Department of Congenital Disorders plays an important role in delivering evidence to support SSIs surveillance and response within the field of congenital diseases. The Department also has a long-standing tradition of research and is internationally recognized as a leader within pregnancy and congenital disorders. The Department conducts basic research focusing on genetic, epi-genetic, metabolomic and molecular disorders by analyzing dried blood spot samples. We are focusing on the causes of congenital disorders including metabolic disorders, developmental disorders, asthma, cancer, cardiac disorders, infections and neuropsychiatric disorders.

SSI has an extensive collection of dried blood spot samples going back to 1982, and access to Denmarks wide range of nation-wide administrative and health care registers and databases as well as a national birth cohort and a national biobank. These data resources provide unique opportunities for large-scale research projects within the strategic aims of Statens Serum Institute.
