The Institute of Clinical Medicine and The Department of Vascular and Thoracic surgery, Akershus University Hospital

Relating to the main position:
The 20% position as professor is combined with a full time (100%) position in The Department of Vascular and Thoracic surgery as a senior consultant in vascular surgery. The department has 9 senior consultants in vascular surgery and two in thoracic surgery (performing lung surgery, not cardiac surgery). The ward has 26 beds and a stable and highly qualified nursing staff, as has the outpatient clinic. There is close collaboration with the Department of Orthopedics and The department of Endocrinology regarding common patient groups, as well as with the section of interventional radiologists at the Department of Radiology.

We seek a consultant with interest and experience particularly in endovascular treatment, to work with the team of experienced endovascular surgeons and radiologists. We seek a consultant who is qualified to be on call as a senior vascular surgeon, caring for patients in the ward, in the postoperative unit and emergency care patients, together with surgeons in training.

The department of vascular and thoracic surgery is part of the Division of Surgery with 13 departments, including anesthesia and operative services for Akershus University Hospital.

The successful applicant will play an important role in shaping the Departments future research profile, medical teaching, and research supervision. The appointee will be expected to develop new projects, undertake clinical treatment studies, and develop transdisciplinary and transprofessional collaboration with researchers nationally and internationally. Broad clinical and research competence and successful applications for external research funding will be important criteria in the evaluation of applicants.

Applicants must be

  •  certified in a vascular surgery,  
  • have strong interpersonal skills, and
  • demonstrate good oral and written competency of a Scandinavian language.  
  • Clinical experience must be sufficient to teach medical students in all fields of vascular surgery.  
  • A valid authorisation or license to practise as medical doctor in Norway is mandatory before entering the position.

Relating to the academic position:
The University position is part time (20%), but a collaborative agreement between the Hospital and University secures that a minimum of 40% of the working time will be allotted to academic Work.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create an active and attractive research environment will be emphasized in the evaluation of applicants. Active research collaboration, also interdisciplinary and internationally, will be another evaluation criterion.
