Senior Consultant combined with Adjunct Professor / Associate Professor in medicine (Clinical neurophysiology)

Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 24 000 employees and a budget of NOK 30 billion​. The University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway's largest research and educational institution with 28 000 students and 7 000 employees. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is Norway's oldest medical faculty. The Faculty works for progressive education, research and dissemination for the patients’ and society’s best interests. It is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1 500 employees (about 1 000 work years) and about 2 000 students.

A permanent position as Senior Consultant (Clinical neurophysiology) is available in the Department of Neurology, Division of Clinical Neuroscience/, Oslo University Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part-time position as Adjunct Professor SKO 1013 /Associate Professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (Clinical neurophysiology) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.

Regarding the full-time clinical position at OUH:
Section for Clinical Neurophysiology, Department of Neurology is located at two hospital sites, Rikshospitalet and Ullevål. The section offers a wide range of functional tests of the nervous system in children and adults for clinical and research purposes. This includes electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography and nerve conduction studies (EMG and NCS), evoked responses, neuromuscular ultrasound, sleep studies, autonomic nervous system testing, as well as quantitative sensory testing (QST) and evaluation of epidermal nerve fiber density in skin biopsies. Current research activities includes development and evaluation of new medical technology, including AI-based decision support systems.

The Department of Neurology treats patients with diseases of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves, as well as certain muscle diseases. The department has extensive clinical expertise and research activity, particularly related to movement disorders, epilepsy, stroke/diseases in the brain's blood supply, multiple sclerosis (MS), diseases that affect muscles such as myasthenia gravis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), hereditary neurological diseases, neuropsychiatry and painful conditions affecting the neck, back and peripheral nerves, applied clinical neurophysiology as well as headache.

Qualification requirements – education and relevant personal qualities

  • Senior Consultant positions: Certified specialist in clinical neurophysiology and broad clinical experience.
  • Applicant must be clinically active and have a wide experience in clinical and/or basic neurophysiological research.
  • Norwegian health authorities demand a board certification issued in Norway in order to work as a neurophysiologist in Norway. Applicants without a Norwegian board certification must present in detail how they will get a Norwegian board certification.
  • Certificate of good conduct (if needed)
