
Senior Consultant position combined with Professor II/ Associate Professor in Medicine (Pathology - Hematopathology)
Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 25 000 employees and a budget of 20 billion NOK. It is a local hospital for parts of Oslo's population. The University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway's largest research and educational institution with 28 000 students and 7 000 employees. Professional breadth and internationally recognized research environments make UiO an important contributor to society. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is Norway's oldest medical faculty. The Faculty works for progressive education, research and dissemination for the patients’ and society’s best interests. It is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1 500 employees (about 1 000 work years) and about 2 000 students.
A permanent positions as Senior Consultant (pathology) is available at Department of Pathology, in the diagnostic unit of hematopathology Division of Laboratory Medicine, Oslo University Hospital.
The position is affiliated with a part time position as Professor II SKO 1013 /Associate Professor II SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (Pathology) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.
Regarding the full-time clinical position at Oslo University Hospital:
The Department of Pathology has broad expertise and makes diagnoses on tissue and cell samples from the hospital’s own patients and patients from different out-patient clinics in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. The department consists of seven sub-units and among them is a unit that performs analysis for clinical research projects in precision medicine and one with more general research. The department has employees at OUS Radiumhospitalet, OUS Ullevål sykehus and OUS Rikshospitalet. There are six research groups in the department, and about 60 senior consultant positions.
The senior consultants work in different diagnostic subgroups including neuropathology, head &neck, childhood cancer, breast, sarcomas, thyroid pathology, lung/heart/kidney/ transplantation, skin, gastrointestinal pathology, cytology, urological pathology, gynaecological pathology and hematopatholgy.
The diagnostic unit of hematopathology performs histological examinations of lymph nodes, bone marrow and tumour tissue in addition to flow cytometric analysis of, in particular, blood and bone marrow. Molecular tests are an integrated part of the diagnostics, and a section of cytogenetics is in these days included in the Department of Pathology.

Work tasks
- Participate in the ordinary diagnostic work at the department, including clinicalmeetings
- Contribute to maintain and develop pathology at a high standard
- Contribute to maintain and develop a highly qualified research environment
- Contribute to training of clinical fellows, run courses and participate in quality improvement routines
Qualification requirements – education
- The applicant must possess a Norwegian specialist accreditation in pathology
- The applicant should have broad and extensive experience within hematopathology
- Interest in and experience with molecular genetics and flow cytometry is anadvantage
- Knowledge of the department’s laboratory information management system (LVMS)is an advantage
- Desirable to have qualifications and an interest in artificial intelligence
- Documented language skills in Norwegian or a compatible Scandinavian language isrequired
- Certificate of good conduct (if needed)
