Senior Consultant combined with Adjunct Professor / Associate Professor in Transplantation medicine

Division of Surgery and Specialized Medicine – Oslo University Hospital/Institute of Clinical Medicine - University of Oslo

Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 20 000 employees and a budget of 20 billion NOK. It is a local hospital for parts of Oslo's population. It has a regional function for the inhabitants in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, and it also has a large number of national functions. The Hospital is the largest contributor to medical research and education of health personnel in Norway.

The University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway's largest research and educational institution with 28 000 students and 7 000 employees. Professional breadth and internationally recognized research environments make UiO an important contributor to society. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is Norway's oldest medical faculty. The Faculty works for progressive education, research and dissemination for the patients’ and society’s best interests. It is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1 500 employees (about 1 000 work years) and about 2 000 students.

A permanent position as Senior Consultant (nephrology) is available at Department of Transplantation Medicine, Division of Surgery and Specialized Medicine, Oslo University Hospital.

The position is affiliated with a part time position as Professor II SKO 1013 /Associate Professor II SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (Nephrology) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.

Regarding the full-time clinical position at OUH:
Department of Transplantation Medicine is responsible for the national service for transplantation of abdominal organs. The Section of Nephrology is responsible for the organization of the national network of nephrologists referring patients to kidney, pancreas and pancreatic islet transplantations, and the national service for transplantation of these organs. We have a dialysis department with regular dialysis patients, and also serve patients at Rikshospitalet in need of dialysis and plasmapheresis. We have a research unit with 4 study nurses/bioengineers and the research group on transplant nephrology currently counts 15 members.  The section runs the Norwegian Renal Registry. There are 8 Senior Consultant positions at the department, out of which one is currently attached to a professor II (20%) position. The section has a highly active and internationally renowned research environment.

Work tasks

  • Participate in the ordinary clinical work at the department
  • Participate in the work-up and care of renal and pancreatic transplanted patients
  • Participate in the on-call duty
  • Contribute to the operation of the nationwide transplantation program
  • Contribute to maintain and develop transplantation medicine at a high standard
  • Contribute to maintain and develop a highly qualified research environment
  • Contribute to training of clinical fellows, run courses and participate in quality improvement routines.

Qualification requirements – education

  • The applicant must possess a Norwegian specialist accreditation in nephrology.
  • The applicant should have broad and extensive experience within renal diseases, renal failure and renal replacement therapy.
  • Clinical experience with renal transplanted patients is preferred
  • Documented language skills in Norwegian or a compatible Scandinavian language is required.
  • Certificate of good conduct (if needed)

  • Documented collaborative skills.
  • Empathic communication skills are needed in communication with patients and their families.
  • You must be able to work efficiently and conscientiously in a hectic and stimulating workday.
